Mother of all percussion instruments, dating back to prehistoric times.
Story of Parai
The parai drum, also known as the thappu, is a frame drum from South India and Sri Lanka. Its name, "parai," means "to speak" or "to tell" in Tamil, reflecting its historical use as a means of communication and community gathering. The parai has a rich and complex history, deeply intertwined with Tamil culture and identity. Parai is already gaining greater acceptance in the UK. It is very attractive and active art form, combining dance, percussion, and singing.
